Busted! Don’t Believe These Marketing Myths!

Marketing is an effective link between businesses and consumers. It educates people, cultivates their minds, lures them to buy the best product, and enables them to get maximum satisfaction out of it. All in all, marketing is a great way to communicate with consumers and promote businesses.

However, like any industry, marketing also has its fair share of some sticky perceived untruths. Accepting these false facts can be downright dangerous for any company planning its own marketing strategy or to a job aspirant looking for a sales and marketing career. To help steer clear of these misconceptions, Liberty Consulting and Management, Inc has debunked three of the most widely believed myths about marketing.

Myth 1: If I work on full commission, I will make no money
Many people believe that if a job is not salaried, there is no consistency in pay, it is not stable, and a person will end up at a disadvantage. However, we would argue that going commission is the most stable position. Being able to live off of commission means that a product is offered that the general public is in demand of. This means no matter what happens to the business, as long as there is a demand for said product, there is always money to be made. However, of course, it all depends on the individual and their work ethic. All commission does is really shed light on a person’s willingness to work and not stand by just to collect a paycheck. It is the easiest way to separate those who truly want to work for their own success versus those who just say it.

Myth 2: Marketing is an outdated marketing strategy that doesn’t work
The day that people stop craving for human interaction and relationship building will be when  marketing will become obsolete and irrelevant.  Marketing is more than just knocking on a door and selling a product. It’s about finding and creating genuine connections, meeting new people, and forming new bonds. In some cases, some of the most interesting stories and meaningful interactions in a day are with customers who don’t even end up buying.

Myth 3: Those that are successful and make a lot of sales are just lucky
Thomas Jefferson once said, “It seems the harder I work, the more luck I have.” This is more true than ever, especially when it comes to sales. It’s not about how good a salesperson someone can be or how convincing they are; it’s about how big of a market and sample size you can penetrate to get said result. If your product can help solve a big problem, there will always be a market for it. You just have to reach out to a wider audience.
